- Edna, Geo and family went to the World's Fair, 1904, and stayed withGeorge's brother Js. R (Bob) and family; then both families moved toCarmi, IL; letter from his daughter, Eva, in 1985, said that Geo 'soccupations included beina farmer in KY, a buyer of land in OK soonafter statehood; he was a manufacturer of Japenese sweepers in severalcities inc St. Louis; "Mom was a good saleslady."
Geo. was also a guard at the McAlester prison for a while. He bought &sold houses and real estate. Then he went into the grocery businessfor years. He had a varied lot of jobs and moves, but got alon g welland were well fed. Edna was a teacher in early life. Geor alsooperated a livery stable at Louisvill, KY before kids were born; alsomfgd & sold wallpaper brushes & brooms.
Another story from Eva said that he had many tales of his searches formfg locations & train trips to Liberal, KS. Once the plains were cold& very windy & so desolate that he had the trainment not unlo ad hisequipment & bought a return ticket back home to KY. Also had a similarexperience (alone) to Winpeg, Canada. It was so cold that he neverleft the depot to even look for a possible location & retu rned hom.Eva said "Mom was always holding down the fort at home, awaiting Dad'sreturn."
