Descendent's of Henry Carpenter manuscript said he died prior to 1880;however, he and family were listed in 1880 census. His estatesettlement was in 1900, and an LDS IGI site lists his death as 25 Jun 1900, as well.

315 S513    A memorial placque onsite, lists him as James T not James F. This isbelieved to be in error, as the stone was very weathered and the Fcould easily have been mistaken for a T when the placque was late rcreated.  tree1 
316 S514    By process of elimination and search of Casey, Boyle and LincolnCounties, Soundex Census searches located the family. The name Russellappeared without two "ls" and the 1860 Census looked like "Rufell " (Iwas told by a professional genealogist that the English writing oftenappeared to look like an "f" when in fact there was a double "s" in aname -they would stack part of an s on top of the other.)
1850 Lincoln Co, page 272, listed James F Russel, 39, farmer, Alethia(?), 39, Malinda, 18, G.W, 16, Conrad, 13, J.H., 11, Amanda, 9, M.,7, illegible, /1 & illeg., /1. No real estate or pers prop v aluelisted. They were listed in District 1.
1860 Lincoln Co., p. 108, listed Jas. F. Rufell (the double stackeds), 49, Elethia, 49, Geo W, 26, Conrad, 22, Jacob H, 20, Amanda, 18, Margaret, 16 and Jas. R, 14. (census was to have been taken 1 J une)
1860 Census also listed the real estate value of $10500 and pers prop@ $3051.
(With that value, either he is presumed to have had at least 1, 000acres of land or many slaves.)
1870 Lincoln Co, Hustonville, P. 48, James F, 59, Alethia, 59 andGeorge, 35, were the only ones remaining together. Real estate valuewas listed $730, and pers prop @ $1615.
All births were in KY; Rolll 482, Bk 1, Hustonville.
1880, in Ancestry.com, Lincoln Co. Hustonville listed him wife wife, LETHA. Son, George W also shown in 1880 census, with wife, Edna T...District 70, Hustonville; Fam Hist Lib film # 1254428, NA file #T9-0428, Pg # 273C. Living near them/or with them was also son,Jacob H and family.
