- Per: Herman Peyton's letter dater Aug 1984,Valentine came from VA to Lincoln Co, KY and setled at Peyton's Well, no more than 15 mi from Hustonville. PEYTONS OF VIRGINIA, published 1976; Valentine had been granted land, first in Fayette Co, because of being a soldier; the land supposedly was not good for farming, and then founded Peyton's Well, 3 mi n/e of Hustonville, Lincoln Co, KY (Vol II, pg 662, "History, of Kentucky" noted V. Peyton as a soldier of the Revolution."

"To Randolph, the plantation I now live on, all of which he is to enjoy during his life and at his death to go to Speed Peyton, to Buford Peyton, to Polly R. Peyton, the widow of Vincent Peyton until her youngest child comes of age, then to her son Valentine. To Lucy Hill and her heirs, Simeon and Randolph Peyton, Simeon's son Edmund and his sisters Zuritha and Maria. My wife to be supported by Simeon Peyton and she is to live in her own dwelling house. To Buford Tinsley, Thos. and Jas. Tinsley, the children of Delia Tinsley, dec'd. The rest of my estate to be divided among my children and grand-children. That is the children of Vincent Peyton, Rhoda Goode, Delilah Speed and Delia Tinsley." Signed in the presence of John E. Wright, Joseph Hooker and David Alcorn, Oct. 14, 1831 " In addition, I give to Edmund Peyton, to him my negro girl, Zuritha Peyton, to Maria Peyton, my negro girl, Martha.."
