531 Born in Nashville,ARK, he moved with his brothers to be with their father in Paris, TX.There he sang in the church choir and also met Lula Smith, of Butler, MO. Their courtship of three years was mostly carried on by mail, due to Jake being a traveling salesman.

As a couple, they resided in Paris, TX, Pittsburg, KS, Mc Alester, OK, Tucson, AZ and then finally to Sunland, CA, moving most of the time to be near other family. Lula's family had
been long time MO and KS residents, so they probably went there to be near her family.
When they went to McAlester, it is believed that he became manager of a clothing/dept. store, which later burned. Also, he had some half-brothers or half-sisters living in OK City,
Grandma's brother, Uncle G.R."Bob" Smith lived in Duncan, OK and his father Wm. Alex Carey lived in Madill, OK. Unfortunately, on their way to move to Tucson, the Hall Motor Freight Truck, which was carrying all of their furnishings and most possessions, caught fire and burned in Denver, CO (28 Nov. 1938) They moved to Tucson, to be near their daughter, Lorene and family, and then onto Sunland, to be near their son, Clifford and his family.

Jake had a quick sense of humor and was very kind and easy to be with; being of the "old
school", he clothes shopped for Grandma Lula (since he had worked in the field) and drove
her to her errands or visits with female friends. He was always in sales. As so often of the era, he smoked unfiltered Camel cigarettes. He remained actively employed, and at the last, as a roofing contractor's estimator, and then, without warning, he suddenly died of a heart attach, at age 77. Finally deciding to join the new generation of television viewers, he had just purchased a TV for their Christmas present.
