John R. Jones, 63, vice president-personnel of the Santa Fe Railway, died Sunday night in Evanston Hospital after he was stricken while working in the yard at his home, 3127 Sprucewood Rd., Wilmette.
He started in Santa Fe's operations department in Topeka, Kan., in 1935, became assistant to the vice president in Chicago in 1967, and was named vice president in 1972.
Surviving are his widow, Martha; two sons, Stephen and Gerald; and a daughter, Mrs. Karen Volkman.
Services and burial will be in Topeka.

Wichita -- A graveside service for Martha E. (Summers) Jones, 88, a homemaker of Wichita, was held Friday at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka.
Mrs. Jones died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003.
She was born Jan. 26, 1915, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Charles Jackson Summers and Virginia Loe (Allen) Summers.
Survivors are two sons, Stephen A. Jones, Magalia, Calif., and Gerald M. Jones, Troutdale, Ore.; a daughter, Karen E. Volkmann, Wichita; a brother, Charles Jackson Summers, Rialto, Calif.; two grandsons, Tim and Eric Volkman, and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Jones.
Memorials may be made to Via Christi Foundation, 2622 W. Central, Wichita, 67203. Downing & Lahey East Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Frank Reeb, 77, Topeka, died Wed., April 6, 2011 at the VA.
He was born March 18, 1934 in Topeka, the son of Albert and Irene Reeb.
Tom served our country in the US Navy during the Korean War. He married Margaret Gartner on July 4, 1957. They enjoyed 52 years together.
She preceded him in death Dec. 11, 2009.
Tom retired from Adams Business Forms where he worked for 40 years. He was a member of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, Topeka Kennel Club, Miniature Horse Club and Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include three sons, Matt Reeb (Kathy), Bart Reeb (Kristi), Mike Reeb (Melissa); and daughter, Kelley Rollins (Bill), all of Topeka; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one on the way.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jeri Urban.
Family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sun. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where a parish prayer service will be at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Mon. at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Church. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Mother Teresa of Calcutta Building Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
